NGO and social services about the problems of persons with disabilities
A meeting of the administration of the public organization “Dreptul de a fi” and its beneficiaries with the specialists of the municipal social services took place in the town hall on April, 10. Preparing for the seminar, Natalia Protiuc, the head of “Dreptul de a fi” gathered into one list the problems and difficulties that the organization’s beneficiaries – children and adults with disabilities face every day
“Our wards have a lot of problems, they need to be solved. With a request to organize such a meeting, we addressed in March to Liudmila Derevenvo , a specialist from the town hall. A few weeks later, we, together with sixteen beneficiaries of “Dreptul de a fi”, met with representatives of the town social services, they listened to our problems”, said Natalia Protiuc.
The list of problems for people with disabilities included the following: access to educational institutions for children with disabilities (directors of municipial educational institutions often refuse to accept children with disabilities); assistance in the acquisition of special children’s orthopedic shoes that are not produced in Moldova; arrangement of playgrounds intended for children with disabilities; simplifying the receipt of certificates for Occupational medical assessment boards and others.
“Among our numerous problems there are problems with public transport and taxi services: it is very difficult for people with disabilities to get into the trolleybuses, since most of them do not have special ramps, and in those where they are, they are not used for the intended purpose. We also asked the staff of the trolleybus administration to make signs with the number of the trolleybus bigger, as some of our wards can not see the number and route of public transport. Our other problem is that taxi services often charge our beneficiaries a separate fee for transporting a wheelchair, but not everyone can pay extra money”, explained Stanislav Protiuc, a representative of “Dreptul de a fi”.
Representatives of the municipal social services promised the administration of the public organization “Dreptul de a fi” to assist in solving the difficulties that they have to face in everyday life. “After the meeting, something has finally changed: the mother of one of our ward called me. She said that her daughter, who has a difficult diagnosis, was finally taken to a public school near their house. We were also informed that the Trolleybus Administration agreed to make the signs with the route in the trolleybuses bigger and resolve the issue with the ramps.
We were promised that during the installation of new playgrounds for children, several special attractions for children with disabilities will be installed too. Some of our other appeals are also being resolved”, emphasized the president of the public organization “Dreptul de a fi”.
