C hildren, whose possibilities are considered to be limited, in reality have unlimited possibilities! The Protiuc family living in Balti is sure of this - spouses Natalia and Stanislav, their son Denis and their sister-in-law Tanita. Almost unable to see themselves, they help other people with disabilities to live an active life, teach them to be independent, to confront many obstacles and overcome them, and defend the interests of this vulnerable group of citizens.
The public organization “Dreptul de a fi”, which has already gained fame in the town, was created at the initiative of the Protiuc spouses in October 2010. But Natalia and Stanislav have been working on the problems of disabled people since 2002 - they began with the organization “Auras”. All these years, the couple not only have been taking care of children with disabilities, many of whom due to their peculiarities cannot attend educational institutions, but also have been protecting their interests, hold various social, cultural and sport activities, not only for people with disabilities, but also for healthy persons.
“Since 2002, we have provided assistance to more than 500 disabled people and their families not only from Balti, but also from Chisinau, Donduseni, Soroca, Ungheni, Riscani and other districts. We visited almost all boarding schools in the republic - we were in Hincesti, Bender, Tiraspol, Orhei, Briceni, Balti children's home and the Veterans' House. And we do it annually. We distribute sanitation and cleaning materials”, says Stanislav.
Both Natalia and Stanislav long ago became experts in the field of socialization of people with disabilities. According to them, one of the most important problems of such people is the lack of communication and the opportunity to be involved in something meaningful in life. The spouses actively involve them in social activities, provide an opportunity to participate in various activities, seek and develop those sports in which people with disabilities are able to take part: swimming, torball (a team sport game for people with visual impairment) and goalball (a sport game, in which a team of three people must throw a ball that has bells embedded in it into the opponents' goal).
For many years, the couple has been carrying out numerous outdoor activities - traveling with children with disabilities outside the town and setting up tourist camps there. The last event, gathered about 150 participants, also volunteers and sponsors have been involved. Great help on such trips is provided to Natalia and Stanislav by Iurii Coinov, director of Balti tourist base.
“Now we are implementing two more projects: one is connected with the Christmas holidays, the other is winter (which will last three months), because this period is the most difficult for the families with disabled children: almost all funds are paid for heating and medicines. During this period, we actively distribute food, clothes, etc. to those in need”, say the spouses.
